The Customer
National Merchant Center (“NMC”) is a leading
global provider of end-to-end payment processing solutions
to merchants, corporations and financial institutions.
In order to enhance customer deliverables and portfolio
of services, NMC came up with an idea of providing wizard
based facility for its merchants to create an online
presence with introductory web site, an online store
and NMC’s payment processing Gateway.
After a rigorous and thorough selection process, NMC
choose Hanu Software as their preferred Offshore Systems
Integration and IT Solutions Partners.
Objectives
The key objective of the project was
to design and develop ecommerce stores building solution
that will include e-store building wizard, e-commerce
core template and other supporting services to automate
process of creation new fully functional e-commerce.
- Set up a Wizard based system that
will help the merchants form the first step to the
last with instructions for every step.
- Predefined 50 layout and color
scheme based templates, with ability to add more templates
into the system without any code changes.
- Flexible store management for the
merchants with features such as shopping cart, payment
gateway integration, Item management, pricing, taxation
management, discounts, promotions, stocks and orderings
and reports etc. This would allow the merchants to
set up, and operate their web store effectively.
- NMC admin module to manage
the merchant accounts and collaborate with them.
Challenges
- Creation of a simple, easy to use,
user-friendly point and click wizard based system
for merchants to create their own web store immediately.
- Integration of the main application
with the third party product and services such as
Domain Name Service Provider, Shipping Service Provider,
Risk management application, Master customer database
and NMC Payment Gateway etc.
- Complex architecture and software
design skills to create an application, which generates
an online web-store in a merchant’s selected
Layout and color schemes from the set of templates
built into the system.
- A unique creative designing for
the web stores templates from look and feel and color
perspective so that those templates can cater to wider
set of the merchants using the application.

- During the ‘Requirements
Development’ phase, HTML mock ups were developed
and reviewed jointly with the customer to finalize
the look and feel as well as the navigation of the
application.
- Hanu Software’s quality
management system was followed throughout the development
life cycle of the project.
- Latest Third party control and
services like Cute Editor, Active reports, Calendar,
Date-Time picker, Chart FX lite, Domain creation API
and shipping carriers were used to reduce the development
time and make the application feature-rich.
- Template Support - Each template
consists of various controls and a aspx form. The
aspx form is used for displaying the content. As soon
as the template is changed, new set of controls are
loaded according to the selected template. The controls
are defined inside a configuration file. Example of
the controls are left navigation bar, header, footer
etc.
- Customer interaction – Weekly
teleconferences were held (using the VoIP telephone
service installed at the HSS offshore center) to keep
the customer up to date on the progress, and also
to discuss open issues. Query resolution through Emails,
chat and voice chat as needed.
- During the Development phase,
regular online Demo of the application was scheduled
to get the early feedback from the customer on the
completed work.
- After the development was over,
the QA group started the System Testing phase by executing
the system test cases and reporting the defects back
to the development team.
- After the completion of
System Testing, HSS offshore team helped the customer
with the installation of the system. During the Acceptance
testing phase, less than 10 defects were reported.

- As the web stores get linked to
the NMC’s payment gateway automatically, and
all transactions are executed through their gateway,
it will help them gain a huge market share.

this application, NMC will gain competitive advantage
over others that do not offer similar services.
